Directions to Birmingham & Midland Institute

‘She defied him with her quiet smile – a smile of fatal beauty, full of lurking significance and mysterious meaning’ Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Lady Audley’s Secret (1862)

By Train

The easiest form of transport is the train. Birmingham New Street station is in the city centre. On leaving the station by the main (large) entrance head for the new Bull Ring shopping centre and a large statue of a bull. Veer left at the bull up a pedestrianised shopping street (New Street). Continue up the full length of this street towards the Iron Man and fountains in Victoria Square, in front of the museum building. Walk down the left of the museum, behind which you will find Margaret Street on the right. The entrance to the Institute will be in front of you.

By Car

You may find parking your car difficult, but there are several car-parks near the Institute. Follow signs to the City Centre from any of the trunk roads into Birmingham. The most convenient carpark would be:

National Indoor Arena (NIA) Car-park. From here head up towards the Birmingham Rep Theatre and Symphony Hall. The Institute is at the opposite end of the Centenary Square from the Symphony Hall. Walk through the covered shopping/library centre and you will find the Institute at the top of Margaret Street, on your left.
